The Vrebac šterna near the school has been deteriorating under the effects of time. The northern wall is sinking, and part of it has collapsed, while the northeastern corner of the paved area around the well has also subsided.
However, the most urgent problem is the deterioration of the “šterna well neck” — the supporting structure on which the stone rim rests. This is a rare and unique example, carved from a single piece of stone, bearing the year of construction of the well — 1880.
The supporting base of the stone rim is crumbling, and perhaps only about half of the width on which the rim rests is still structurally sound. In some places, the interior of the well neck can be seen through gaps in the deteriorating support.
Unless urgent repairs are carried out, there is a real possibility that the supporting structure will completely collapse, causing the stone rim to break and fall into the well.
Let us preserve this valuable cultural and historical monument. We must act urgently!
